For those of you that aren’t aware, my politics and profession have caused a rift in my family and I was cut off from a family member. I’ve had a bit of a mental block with continuing on with my research, knowing that it caused said rift, but I’m not giving up.

Japan already does this. Absolutely destroying the automotive market. When a vehicle accumulates a level of mileage, the tax becomes so heavy it is cheaper to total it.
Classic cars shows would become a thing if the past. Only the true elite could afford to keep one, this condensing the wealth into an even tighter ball.
As these cars are, "taxed to death" the consumer still has to commute to work. Public transportation?? Americans love their cars to much. And we live in the "burbs"!! So we become slaves to car manufacturers (subsided by our own tax dollars) to purchase new, but far less exciting cars to drive.
