Today marks 23 years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. That day ignited a patriotism in Americans that reached every corner of the country. The flag went up on every doorstep and political disagreements suddenly seemed trivial. Many Americans flocked to jobs in government service and the armed forces. The U.S. entered the Global War on Terror. We will never forget the lives stolen on that day in September, or the thirteen who gave theirs in Afghanistan at the very end of the conflict. Twenty years of valiant service born from bravery, humility, and love of country is why we are a beacon of leadership to the world. These sacrifices were not in vain, and we must work hard to them.

My 17 year old son took this photo, and how it came to be is one of my favorite memories from this past summer. I was supposed to get a Press Pass in the mail for the MSRA 50th Annual Back To The 50's Weekend, but it got lost in the mail. The person in charge of giving them out met me near the event and I had my son with me when I went to pick up my pass from her. While we were talking to her she asked how many I requested, and I told her I had only requested on pass, then she handed my son one as well and said "Here you go, you can have some fun too." I am so happy my original pass got lost in the mail because being able to bring my son with me to this event was awesome, and he was REALLY excited about it too!!
